Summary of HSBC KitPlus cover
Section 1 - Service uniforms, kit and equipment
Cover is available on a worldwide basis or for the United Kingdom only for issued or privately-purchased service
uniforms, kit and equipment. Cover is on a new-for-old basis, unless economically repairable. In addition, the
following coverage extensions are automatically included, subject to policy limits:
- Service kit and equipment on temporary issue to you.
- Money.
- Credit Cards.
- Medals and decorations awarded to you.
Personal possessions
Cover is also given for personal possessions on a worldwide basis for your personal possessions such as civilian clothing, jewellery, watches, cameras, mobile phones, portable electronic equipment and the like.
You should make allowance under this section for all items that you would expect to use or wear outside your home or accommodation.
Certain articles need to be listed separately on the proposal form and a receipt, valuation or other proof of value is required if the article is worth more than £3,000.
Section 2 - Home contents
This section covers those items you would expect to remain inside your home or accommodation. Cover is on a new-for-old basis unless economically repairable. If you select worldwide cover, your home contents will be covered in your home or accommodation wherever you live. If you move, or are sent on a posting or detachment, your contents will be covered whilst in storage or transit by professional removers or military transport authorities anywhere in the world. You should let us know your new address as soon as possible.
If you select United Kingdom cover, your contents will be covered while in your home or accommodation in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands and the offshore islands. Your contents will also be covered whilst in storage or transit in or between any of these places.
You will need to advise us beforehand and pay an additional premium if you plan to move outside these areas. If you are posted or detached abroad at short notice, we understand that insurance may be the last thing on your mind. The policy gives a 30-day grace period from the date of your move to give you time to inform us. During the grace period, your contents will be covered as if worldwide cover had been issued, but you will have to pay the additional premium from the date of your move.
Your contents will be covered against loss or damage by named perils. Accidental damage cover is included automatically. In addition, this section also provides the following valuable cover:
- Alternative accommodation costs of up to 35 per cent of your contents sum insured if your home is made uninhabitable by loss or damage that is covered by this insurance.

Important notes about your policy
Underinsurance
In common with other household policies, there is a clause that limits the amount of claim payment if you have underinsured. This not only applies to buildings but also to privately purchased kit, personal possessions, home contents and cycles. We strongly recommend you make a list of all such items, room by room, and estimate the cost of replacing each as new to avoid underinsurance. Items insured as personal possessions (e.g. clothing, jewellery and the like) should not be included again as home contents.
Where your estimate falls between the bands of sums insured available on the proposal, we recommend you select the higher band to allow for any acquisitions you may make during the year.
Special items
Certain items need to be specially listed on the proposal form, especially laptop computers. For each item worth more than £3,000, a receipt, valuation or other proof of value must be provided.
Insurance Premium Tax
Insurance Premium Tax, currently 5 per cent, must be added to the sub-total of monthly payments but not if you reside overseas at inception of the policy. A premium calculation section is included in the proposal to assist you with the calculation.
Excess/Conditions/Limitations
Please note that there are conditions, limitations and excesses within the policy and, in addition, we reserve the right to change and limit cover.
Security
In the interests of security, we will use your civilian title in all correspondence. If you would prefer to be addressed by your rank, please indicate this by circling clearly your rank on the proposal form. HSBC Insurance (UK) Ltd aims to provide you with the best insurance products and the best service at the best possible price.
